about
This song is a true story about an old women I use to know. Her name was Alice. Alice had severe dementia. SHe barley recognized her family, and had little memory of the past or of who she was. Every week Alice's daughter would visit, and tell Alice stories of her life. Alice would always be amazed to hear about the past that she had no recollection of.
This song is basically about Alice's Daughter, retelling her life story to her.The concept interested me because It touched upon how feeble our perception of what we think of reality really is. Alzheimers disease is a very sad thing, but the bitter sweet factor is that that Alice had a chance to re-live it, without any preconceived notions or opinions. Everything was brand new, like a child's view of the world.
Most people usually assume this song is about a relationship falling apart. It's not, but I can see where they might see that. Its not a relationship that's deteriorating. Its a mind
lyrics
I'll buy you flowers
Then wait and see
We'll talk for hours
I'll tell you everything you use to be
and you'll admit
faces fade, unfimilar
and I'll regret
Casting shadows in the bedroom
Looking for a way out, oh no oh no
resurfaced empty thoughts from an empty room
light is shining dimly, into into
resurfaced broken thoughts from an empty room
whats the point suppose to be?
When you rewrite history?
though its all the same?
It wasn't perfect.
Though we tried
All to strive for
Before you die
Happiness.
So much easier in the void
What won't hurt you
only makes you paranoid
Looking for a way out, oh no oh no
resurfaced empty thoughts from an empty room
light is shining dimly, into into
resurfaced broken thoughts from an empty room
whats the point suppose to be?
When you rewrite history?
though its all the same?
And the symphony plays on
long after we're gone
it resonates in our hearts.
